Mr. Cosentino took his sixth-grade religion class on a field trip to the National Shrine and Basilica of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. We are blessed to be so close that our students can have the experience of walking in the footsteps of Patroness and the mother of parochial education in the US! Grades seven and eight will be participating in their own visits to the Shrine, where they will be able to see the relics and items from Mother Seton herself that are on display in the museum.

MSS HSA Partners with Mount Basketball!

Attention all MSS Parents and families:

Mount St. Mary’s University Athletics and Mother Seton School Home and School Association (HSA) are teaming up this basketball season! The Mount is looking for adults, 16 years and older, to work as ushers at all of the women’s and men’s home basketball games. If you are able to volunteer, please sign up via the sign-up genius link. By volunteering, your children, spouse, or child sitter will get free tickets to that game.

By helping Mount Athletics you can help us raise up to $9,000 for Mother Seton School. In addition, if you are looking to satisfy your volunteer hours, ushering at the games counts!

Come support Mother Seton School and cheer on our Mount Basketball Teams!

A Message From The Principal

Dear Families,

I hope this note finds your family healthy and well.

In honor of deceased friends and family in our community, a memorial wall will be set up in the atrium. If you have yet to do so, please contact Jennifer Buchheister (advancement@mothersetonschool.org) to add a name(s) to this wall and our book of prayers.

The cafeteria will be offering a Thanksgiving-style lunch on Tuesday, November 16. (See below) Please ensure your child notifies their teacher on Monday so that Mrs. Reaver will have an accurate count.

The final day of the first trimester is November 24. Please work with your child to ensure all assignments are submitted, especially middle school and any class that uses Google Classroom to submit work. Please get in touch with your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Thank you to Mrs. Monacelli and all the volunteers who have made this week’s book fair possible. Please stop by the school to make a purchase, or you may order online. The book fair is open today through Thursday until 4:00 PM and will close at noon on Friday.

The HSA will meet this evening in the library at 6:30. I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Kathleen J. Kilty, PhD
Principal

Toys for Tommy Toy Drive - 11/15-11/30

In partnership with Delone Catholic High School, we are collecting new, unwrapped toys and books in honor of Tommy Laudani, MSS 2014 alum, who passed away in 2018 from a rare form of brain cancer. Donations will benefit Johns Hopkins free Snowflake Station, where families can "shop" for gifts for their children who are pediatric patients. Contact Jennifer Buchheister or Chris Cosentino with any questions.

Pfizer Vaccine for Ages 5-11

We are providing this for informational purposes only.

FCPS is partnering with the Frederick County Health Department to provide several free vaccination clinics at school sites. Parents or guardians must be present for these vaccination appointments.

Students do not have to attend the school where vaccination clinics are being held. Appointments are required. Families can schedule appointments for the first three clinics through the links below. Additional clinic opportunities are scheduled for Nov. 15-Nov. 22, and more will be announced soon.

Please note these clinics are only for children ages 5-11. Appointments for anyone ages 12 and older will be cancelled.

Vaccine clinic schedule for this week

  • Wednesday, November 10 (3:30-7:30 p.m.): Tuscarora Elementary, 6321 Lambert Drive, Frederick.
  • Friday, November 12 (3:30-7:30 p.m.): Brunswick Elementary, 400 Central Ave., Brunswick.

Future vaccine clinic sites and dates

  • Monday, November 15: Urbana Elementary, 3554 Urbana Pike, Frederick
  • Wednesday, November 17: Walkersville Elementary, 83 West Frederick St., Walkersville?
  • Friday, November 19: Whittier Elementary, 2400 Whittier Dr., Frederick
  • Monday, November 22: Butterfly Ridge Elementary, 601 Contender Way, Frederick

In addition to school clinics, the Frederick County Health Department will also be holding clinics specifically for youths ages 5-11 at 800 Oak Street (entrance off Himes Ave.) in Frederick. Dates, times and links for these clinics will be posted via FrederickCountyMD.gov/COVIDvaccine.

We expect that vaccines will be available in many other areas in the county, including pharmacies and some pediatrician offices. Families are encouraged to reach out to their health care providers about the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

As with all age groups, vaccines are free and insurance is not required. For more information about COVID-19 vaccines, please visit the Frederick County Health Department's online vaccine hub.

WANDS FOR WILDLIFE - GREEN SCHOOL COLLECTION

As part of our Green School initiative, middle school science classes are collecting used mascara wands for wildlife!

The wands are shared with wildlife caregivers to use in providing care and treatment to wild animals. They use the wands in many ways including direct care of the animals and help with cleaning items like syringes.

Before you throw your mascara away, please clean off the wand and send it in to Mrs. Kuykendall (Mrs. K). One simple step to help wildlife and be a good steward of the earth!
