A Message From the Principal

Dear Families,

Thank you to Joanne Berg and Emily Hanson and all the volunteers who made Saturday’s Gift Card Bingo a great success. Our next HSA event will be Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 3. I hope to see you there.

Congratulations to all our STEM Fair participants and winners! There were some great projects and inventions. I hope our students are as proud of their hard work as I am. You can see the list of winners and their projects here.

School will be closed through November 27. Thank you for your understanding the need to close school a day early for the Thanksgiving break. The high number of absent students, faculty, and staff, along with the near-constant flow of students coming to the nurse's office with similar respiratory complaints, prompted this closure. Mr. Riffle and Mr. Riley are disinfecting the entire building and using "flu bombs" so that we may all return on Monday, November 28, to a clean, healthy, and safe environment. I wish you and your family a blessed Thanksgiving holiday.

Below is a prayer taken from Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers that I thought you might like to recite with your family on Thanksgiving Day:

Lord, we thank you
for the goodness of our people
and for the spirit of justice
that fills this nation.
We thank you for the beauty and fullness of the
land and the challenge of the cities.

We thank you for our work and our rest,
for one another, and for our homes.
We thank you, Lord:
accept our thanksgiving on this day.
We pray and give thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord.

And just a reminder that Friday, December 2, is a half-day with Noon dismissal. After School Care will not be available.

Have a Blessed Week!

Sincerely,

Kathleen J. Kilty, PhD
Principal

Thank you to everyone who notified us of any issues with the alert system. If there were any issues with not receiving the alert sent Monday afternoon regarding school closure, please contact Lynn Tayler at ltayler@mothersetonschool.org.

#GivingTuesday is November 29

For the past few years, we have used #GivingTuesday to kick off our Annual Fund campaign. It's a way to spark our community's interest in giving with intention and to provide a counter to the commercialism that has come to define what should be a Christ-like season. Black Friday and Cyber Monday provide deep discounts on items families might not otherwise be able to afford, and they have their place. All we ask is that you consider giving some or all of what you might save to Mother Seton School.

Our goal this year is to reach 150 gifts on #GivingTuesday. Last year, 119 donors graciously gave, and we are so grateful! Look for email reminders and check our Facebook and Instagram pages for updates!

SICK POLICY REMINDER - IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

There are many viruses going around, not the least of which are COVID, flu and RSV. Many of our students have already suffered illnesses. PLEASE, in order to keep our school healthy and to show consideration to other students, faculty, staff, and families, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF THEY ARE TOO SICK TO TAKE PART IN NORMAL ACTIVITIES OR IF THEY HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

  • Fever at or above 100˚F
  • Vomiting or Nausea
  • Uncontrollable cold symptoms
    • persistent/disruptive cough
    • excessively runny nose
    • headaches/body aches
    • sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Decrease or loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Green nasal discharge lasting longer than ten days or accompanied by fever/chills
  • Pinkeye

Since cold and flu symptoms can mimic COVID, please ensure your child has tested negative for COVID before sending them to school. We have at-home test kits for your convenience. Your pediatrician can also recommend a combination COVID-Flu-RSV home test kit if they believe it's necessary.

As a reminder, children must be fever- and diarrhea-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of medicine (Tylenol, Motrin, Immodium, etc.) before they can return to school.

If your child exhibits any of these symptoms at school, we will send them home. If your child must miss more than 3 days of school, we ask you to please bring a doctor's note upon their return to school.

Thank you for your consideration of the health of others and your assistance in keeping our school healthy!

TOYS FOR TOMMY - Now through November 29

The National Junior Honor Society, in partnership with Delone Catholic HS, is sponsoring the TOYS FOR TOMMY drive now through November 29th! We are collecting new and unwrapped toys & books for the Johns Hopkins Snowflake Station, a place where parents can "shop" for free gifts for their children under pediatric care. This is in memory of Tommy Laudani, MSS'14, who passed away in 2018 from a rare cancer. A bin is located in the atrium to collect the toys and books. Thank you for your support!
