Tuesday News 11/15/22

We're excited to be able to offer our Prayer Partner program again more regularly! Students in grades 4-8 are paired with younger students in PreK-grade 3. Throughout the year, they share fun activities together--like creating fall crafts, storytime, and their own bingo. The older students are inspired to be positive role models and mentors, and all are encouraged to include one another in their daily prayers.

Announcements

BUS ALERTS: Please Read.

The FREDERICK bus will not run on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 22nd and on Monday, November 28th in the morning and the afternoon.

The Taneytown-Woodsboro-Walkersville bus will not run Tuesday, November 29th in the morning or the afternoon.

I apologize for the inconvenience this will cause. Should circumstances change, I will inform you promptly. If you know of anyone who has a CDL with a passenger endorsement that would be interested in part-time work, please let me know.

You will not be charged the bus fee for these days. If you have any questions regarding your bus fee, please contact Albert Nastasi at anastasi@mothersetonschool.org.

A Message From the Principal

Dear Families,

I hope this note finds you and your family healthy and well.

Congratulations to our middle school students for their hard work and dedication to the STEM Fair! Please stop by the school tomorrow evening to look at the many projects. Thank you to Mrs. Kuykendall for working with our students and organizing the fair and to the judges who have taken time from their busy schedules to be here.

November 23 is the final day of the first trimester. Please ensure that all outstanding work is turned in.

I am pleased to announce a new initiative at MSS to recognize our students’ strength of character. Beginning with the second trimester, each homeroom teacher for grades PreK – 8 will select one of their students to receive the Mother Seton School Character Award. The awardees will be honored at a future school Mass or assembly. In addition, there will be a decorated bulletin board dedicated to acknowledging the recipients.

When selecting a recipient, teachers will consider how a student demonstrated outstanding Christ-like behavior and adherence to Mother Seton School’s Code of Conduct. Some attitudes and characteristics to be considered might include but are not limited to kindness, truthfulness, promptness, politeness, helpfulness, and an acknowledgment of faith.

This outstanding recognition is a very high honor and an opportunity to affirm and encourage demonstration of Christ-like behavior. Our first winners will be announced in March at the conclusion of the second trimester. It is my goal to recognize this achievement each trimester of the school year.

I hope you can attend the HSA Gift Card Bingo this Saturday. The HSA has put in a lot of work, and it sounds like a good time!

Have a Blessed Week!

Sincerely,

Kathleen J. Kilty, PhD
Principal

We conducted a test of our emergency alert notification system last Thursday at 7:30 p.m. A few bugs were identified and corrected. Thank you to everyone who let us know about any issues!

If you did not receive an alert, please contact Lynn Tayler at ltayler@mothersetonschool.org with your name, your student's name and grade, and your correct contact information.

SICK POLICY REMINDER - IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

There are many viruses going around, not the least of which are COVID, flu and RSV. Many of our students have already suffered illnesses. PLEASE, in order to keep our school healthy and to show consideration to other students, faculty, staff, and families, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF THEY ARE TOO SICK TO TAKE PART IN NORMAL ACTIVITIES OR IF THEY HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

  • Fever at or above 100˚F
  • Vomiting or Nausea
  • Uncontrollable cold symptoms
    • persistent/disruptive cough
    • excessively runny nose
    • headaches/body aches
    • sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Decrease or loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Green nasal discharge lasting longer than ten days or accompanied by fever/chills
  • Pinkeye

Since cold and flu symptoms can mimic COVID, please ensure your child has tested negative for COVID before sending them to school. We have at-home test kits for your convenience. Your pediatrician can also recommend a combination COVID-Flu-RSV home test kit if they believe it's necessary.

As a reminder, children must be fever- and diarrhea-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of medicine (Tylenol, Motrin, Immodium, etc.) before they can return to school.

If your child exhibits any of these symptoms at school, we will send them home. If your child must miss more than 3 days of school, we ask you to please bring a doctor's note upon their return to school.

Thank you for your consideration of the health of others and your assistance in keeping our school healthy!

TOYS FOR TOMMY - Now through November 29

The National Junior Honor Society, in partnership with Delone Catholic HS, is sponsoring the TOYS FOR TOMMY drive now through November 29th! We are collecting new and unwrapped toys & books for the Johns Hopkins Snowflake Station, a place where parents can "shop" for free gifts for their children under pediatric care. This is in memory of Tommy Laudani, MSS'14, who passed away in 2018 from a rare cancer. A bin is located in the atrium to collect the toys and books. Thank you for your support!
