Tuesday News 11/10/2020

Sometimes learning can be a little messy! Our Pre-K 4 students learned this when they painted with ice cubes. But the activity not only sparked their creativity, it helped develop fine and gross motor skills and combined a little science (properties of ice) with art.

Dear Families,

I hope this note finds you and your family healthy and well.

I have a few exciting calendar updates to announce. Picture day will be held on Tuesday, November 17 from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Virtual students may come at any time during these hours to have their picture taken. The students may be out of uniform for the day. Please refer to the school handbook policy for the out of uniform dress code.

Father Marty will celebrate a Thanksgiving virtual Mass for the school community on Monday, November 23 at 10:15 AM. I will provide the Mass link to you next week. I hope your family will be able to participate in the Mass with us. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our community to gather together in worship.

Tomorrow, November 11, is Veterans Day. While we aren’t able to hold a Veterans Day service to honor all those who have served or are currently serving our country, I ask you to join us in prayer and thanks for our military men and women. Many in our MSS family are veterans and I’d like to express my deepest gratitude for all you have done and continue to do for our country.

You should have received a letter from me last week regarding our school’s travel policy. If you did not receive the letter, or have questions about the travel policy, please contact me. I understand that this policy is an inconvenience. However, I do believe it is the best way to keep our school community healthy and our school open for in person learning.

Virtual Learning Stars

From this week until Christmas Break, we would like to highlight our virtual learners on our website and social media! We will also hang the students’ “Star” in the school as a way to connect them with our in-person learners. Please check your email for a questionnaire for your virtual learners to complete and return, with pictures, to Mrs. Tayler NLT December 1. While this is voluntary, we hope your family will take part in this!

Holiday Travel Policy

Please review MSS’s holiday travel policy in regards to the pandemic this year. If traveling by air or to certain areas of the country, in-school students may be required to self-quarantine for 14 days upon return. High Risk areas will be posted in the announcements section on the home page (also found above) and updated each Tuesday.

Snow Day Policy

We’ve had to make a change to our inclement weather policy, since FCPS will not be in session for the foreseeable future. MSS will make a determination of school delays or closures and will post the information by 6:00 a.m. via SwiftAlert, the website, and social media.

In the event we close for a day, there will be no in-school or virtual instruction. With all the uncertainty and anxiety related to COVID-19, we feel it’s important to maintain the hope of a snow day for children, and to allow both in-school and virtual learners the chance to just be kids by playing in the snow, drinking hot cocoa, snuggling in with a good book or movie, or enjoying whatever favorite snow day tradition your family might have.

Should we need to close for consecutive days, we will institute virtual learning for all.

Please ensure you are set up to receive emails through both the SchoolAdmin portal and Constant Contact. Important information is distributed through both channels. Also, be sure to check the website regularly for announcements and other news, as well as for answers to your questions. We have an FAQ for uniforms, general info, and for Learning During COVID.

To reduce the amount of materials sent home, we will not be printing the Tuesday News until further notice. It will be distributed each week through Constant Contact email, as well as posted on our website.

If you have previously unsubscribed from receiving our emails, you will need to add yourself again by re-signing up HERE.
