A Message From The Principal

Dear Families,

I hope this note finds you and your family healthy and well.

I am pleased to introduce two new members to our community. Ms. Zoe Hurlburt, a graduate student at Mount St. Mary’s University, will work in our After School Care program. Ms. Hurlburt’s first day will be today. She is looking forward to meeting the students. Mrs. Cathy Little will join the cafeteria staff. Mrs. Little’s granddaughter is a first-grade student at Mother Seton School, and she is excited to join Mrs. Reaver in the cafeteria.

We had our first in-school Mass of the school year on Monday. Father Bill, the pastor at St. Joseph’s Church in Emmitsburg, was the celebrant. On this feast day of St. Vincent de Paul, we installed our Vincentian Marian Youth Club members. I want to thank these students for their year-long commitment to prayer, service, and community building.

The annual Blessing of the Animals will take place next Monday, October 4, on the Feast Day of St. Francis. I am excited we will be able to celebrate this tradition this year. Grade 2 students will lead us in a special prayer, after which Father Collin Poston from St. Anthony’s Shrine will conduct the blessing. Please see the flier on our website and attached to the email.

Have a blessed week!

Sincerely,

Kathleen J. Kilty, PhD
Principal

REQUIRED: FAMILY INCOME SURVEY

DUE THIS FRIDAY!!!

Each year, Maryland schools are required to collect family income data. The Archdiocese of Baltimore compiles our data to send to the Maryland State Department of Education through use of a digital income survey. These numbers will not only serve for the Title I submissions, but also can be used for textbook funding, grant requests, and we will now be able to provide accurate reporting of our free and reduced eligibility at the individual school and county level (county of student residence).  The AOB has worked in conjunction with Frederick county in the development of the survey and it meets the county’s reporting requirements.

Families MUST complete one survey per student enrolled at MSS using the following link: https://forms.gle/cgNf6AaZQGxmCqpS7

The survey takes approximately 2-4 minutes to complete and is due no later than October 1. Again, this is a REQUIREMENT and can affect the resources we are able to receive for our students.

Picture Day Coming Soon

Strawbridge Studios will be here on Friday, October 15, for individual school pictures. Students may come out of uniform that day. Please refer to the handbook for appropriate out of uniform wear.

Each student receives a complimentary photo package consisting of 1-8x10, 2-5x7, 4-3x5, and 8-wallets. You will also have the chance to order additional photos at your cost.

WANDS FOR WILDLIFE - GREEN SCHOOL COLLECTION

As part of our Green School initiative, middle school science classes are collecting used mascara wands for wildlife!

The wands are shared with wildlife caregivers to use in providing care and treatment to wild animals. They use the wands in many ways including direct care of the animals and help with cleaning items like syringes.

Before you throw your mascara away, please clean off the wand and send it in to Mrs. Kuykendall (Mrs. K). One simple step to help wildlife and be a good steward of the earth!
