Each year, grade 2 raises and releases monarch butterflies at our Monarch Waystation behind the primary playground. This year, there was a bumper crop of monarchs to release! Special thanks to Col Bruce Carr, USAF, Retired, who donated a cage full of chrysalises for this ever-popular and fun Green School project. Pictured: A monarch gently perches on Julianna's hand before it takes flight, as Max looks on.

A Message From the Principal

Dear Families,

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul. St. Vincent de Paul was born in France on April 24, 1581. He dedicated his life to serving poor and marginalized people and was known for his compassion and generosity to the poor. In 1633, St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac co-founded the Daughters of Charity to “consecrate their lives to God and to live in community to dedicate themselves to the service of the poor.” in 1850, the Sisters of Charity, founded by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, joined with the Daughters. Mother Seton School, directly descended from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s first free Catholic school, incorporates the values of Vincentian formation in our mission.

We will honor our founder on Friday at 9:30 a.m. with an all-school Mass and the induction ceremony for our newest Vincentian Marian Youth members. Father Alberto Barattero, IVE, will celebrate the Mass. Please join us if you are able.

In honor of the Feast Day of St. Francis, we will hold a Blessing of the Animals on Tuesday, October 4, at 1:30 p.m. Please see Tuesday News for more information.

If you have yet to do so, please register for the 15th Annual Angels Above Golf Tournament on October 7. This fun event raises money for the Jack and Shirley Little Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to Mother Seton School students. Not a golfer? Please consider becoming a tee sponsor. You can do so to promote your business, honor your family, or pay tribute to a loved one. Visit our Golf page for more information.

Have a Blessed Week!

Sincerely,

Kathleen J. Kilty, PhD
Principal

The Taneytown-Walkersville-Woodsboro Bus will be operating as normal on Friday, September 30.

Blessing of the Animals October 4

Help us celebrate the Feast Day of St. Francis with our annual Blessing of the Animals!

The program will begin at 1:30pm on Tuesday, October 4, in the circle in front of the school. Pet owners may begin taking their places at 1:10pm. Please be sure all pets are restrained!

Treats and water will be available. No pets allowed in the school building. In the case of severe weather, we may cancel the event. Please check our Facebook page and website that day for any last minute changes.

PE Shirts

PE shirts have arrived. Mostly. Due to supply chain issues, the order was not complete. If you did not receive your shirts, please call Mrs. Smith in the front office. More are arriving in the next couple of weeks.

Because there was a long backorder on cotton blend shirts in Youth XL, the printer will be creating those shirts using 100% cotton material. Please make sure you wash Youth XL shirts in cold water!

Be a Part of the HSA and Make a Difference for MSS!

The MSS Home and School Association depends on parents to encourage volunteering their time, talents, ideas, experience, and energy. Many parents are uncertain how to get involved due to working full-time, little ones at home, etc. Most of the opportunities have flexibility—please contact us with any questions—and we welcome suggestions on future events and programs.

Please complete the Volunteer Form.

*Join us for our next meeting, October 11th at 6:30pm in the media center*

LEAD FOR A NIGHT AT THE RACES GALA NEEDED!

Each year, the HSA sponsors a Gala-style event, which is the main fundraiser for the school. Because of COVID, we have not been able to have one the past couple of years. We are in danger of not being able to hold one this year if we do not find someone willing to take the lead on this!

Please fill out the volunteer form or contact Trish at HSA@mothersetonschool.org if you are willing and able to step up for our school. The proceeds from this major event have been used to pay for classroom subscriptions, new playground equipment and mulch, and addition educational materials.

Join the School Band!

Students in grades 4-8 are invited to participate in the school band, led by Mr Trey Pope.

The purpose of the program is to broaden the education of the child by giving him/her an understanding of music. Participation in the band gives the student a feeling of accomplishment which is becoming such a rare but valuable part of life. The mental and physical disciplines involved in learning to read and play music are of immeasurable value to the overall development of the child. Our purpose is to bring the experience of music to every child.

FORMAT
Classes are organized to offer instruction on band instruments to all interested students enrolled in the 4th through 8th grade. These classes are taught by highly qualified teachers. Classes meet once a week from October through May, except on school holidays (minimum of 28 lessons). The health and safety of our students and staff is paramount; all guidelines of the archdiocese
and each school will be followed. Students will be scheduled by instrument or level of achievement. First year students do not become members of the school band until they reach a prescribed level of achievement. Second year students, with few exceptions, are full-fledged members of the school band. Instruction is offered on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, bass guitar and snare drum.

Please view the welcome letter and instrumental rental flier for more information.

MySchoolWallet

This year, we are trying out a new app to help streamline payments to the school and (hopefully) make your life a little easier!

The app is called MySchoolWallet and you can download it from the Google Play Store or from Apple.

Only simple payments will be made through MySchoolWallet such as:

  • Field Trips
  • Event Tickets
  • Single Products

Once you set up your account, you only need to open the app and click to pay. It's easier than sending in cash or check, and both the school and you can more easily track your transactions.

No more wondering if you paid for that upcoming field trip... just click on the "Transactions" tab in the app and you'll know!
