Ms. Miller's Pre-K 4/5 class had a busy week learning their letters and shapes in creative ways! They each painted the first letter of their name and went on a shape hunt.  B was the letter of the week, which they celebrated with a B is for Balloon Bounce Art. A Message From The Principal

Dear Families,

I hope this note finds you and your family healthy and well.

I am very excited to announce that Father Bill Allegretto, C.M., the new pastor at St. Joseph’s Church in Emmitsburg, will celebrate Mass on September 27, the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul. St. Vincent de Paul is very special to our school community as he and St. Louise de Marillac founded the Daughters of Charity. Today, over 18,000 Daughters are serving in over 90 countries.

Our newest members of the Vincentian Marian Youth (VMY) club will be inducted at this Mass. VMY is an international service organization of the Vincentian Way. Members meet regularly for team building, prayer, and planning service and outreach projects. Sister Josephine Lomasney, D.C, is leading this year’s VMY, which is open to our Middle School students.

Thank you to the many people who attended our first HSA meeting last week. It was great to see all of you and how eager you are to support our students! Do not worry if you missed the meeting. There are plenty of opportunities to serve, and we need all the hands we can get. Please be on the lookout in Tuesday News for information on activities and fundraisers, starting with the HSA Mum Sale going on now.

Have a blessed week!

Sincerely,

Kathleen J. Kilty, PhD
Principal

REQUIRED: FAMILY INCOME SURVEY

Each year, Maryland schools are required to collect family income data. The Archdiocese of Baltimore compiles our data to send to the Maryland State Department of Education through use of a digital income survey. These numbers will not only serve for the Title I submissions, but also can be used for textbook funding, grant requests, and we will now be able to provide accurate reporting of our free and reduced eligibility at the individual school and county level (county of student residence).  The AOB has worked in conjunction with Frederick county in the development of the survey and it meets the county’s reporting requirements.

Families MUST complete one survey per student enrolled at MSS using the following link: https://forms.gle/cgNf6AaZQGxmCqpS7

The survey takes approximately 2-4 minutes to complete and is due no later than October 1. Again, this is a REQUIREMENT and can affect the resources we are able to receive for our students.

WANDS FOR WILDLIFE - GREEN SCHOOL COLLECTION

As part of our Green School initiative, middle school science classes are collecting used mascara wands for wildlife!

The wands are shared with wildlife caregivers to use in providing care and treatment to wild animals. They use the wands in many ways including direct care of the animals and help with cleaning items like syringes.

Before you throw your mascara away, please clean off the wand and send it in to Mrs. Kuykendall (Mrs. K). One simple step to help wildlife and be a good steward of the earth!
