Next HSA Meeting 10/11 - Guest Speaker Sister Maggie - RSVP Today!

Mother Seton School's Home and School Association presents our first Mental Health Awareness Speaker Series in conjunction with our next HSA meeting.

Mental Health Awareness Speaker Series:

Guest Speaker: Sister Maggie Scally, D.C.

Topic: Discussing The Second Step Program and its benefits.

As we come out of the past few years, an important topic has come to the forefront, mental health. Mother Seton School and the HSA would like to encourage this discussion to continue, which is why we have planned a 3-part series focusing on various topics centered around mental health. First up is Mother Seton School's very own, Sister Maggie Scally, D.C., and The Second Step Program. Sister Maggie will discuss what the program offers our children and the steps we can take at home to help encourage engagement with our children.

The HSA general meeting will start at 6:30 p.m., with Sister Maggie starting her presentation at 7:00 p.m.

Like all HSA meetings, this event is open to the Mother Seton School community. While we encourage you to attend the HSA meeting to hear about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities, we understand everyone has busy schedules. Sister Maggie's talk will be approximately 30 minutes long.

A Message From the Principal

Dear Families,

Our first Grandparents and Grand Friends Day since 2019 was a great success. We had over 300 guests in attendance. A special thank you to Michelle Kluchurosky for organizing the parent volunteers, breakfast treats, and all who donated food and door prize items. It was a good time for everyone!

While September 27 is the official Feast of St. Vincent de Paul, we will celebrate his Feast Day on September 30 with an all-school Mass at 9:30 a.m. Father Alberto Barattereo, IVE, the new pastor at St. Joseph’s Church-Emmitsburg, will be the celebrant. The newest Vincentian Marian Youth members will be inducted at this time.

We will test our emergency alert system soon. This system communicates emergency information like school closures or last-minute schedule changes. These alerts are sent out via email, text, and telephone calls using the information provided through SchoolAdmin.

Our sixth graders will participate in a team-building ropes course challenge at Upward Enterprises in Adamstown, MD. Thank you to Mount St. Mary’s University for sponsoring this experience for our sixth-grade students!

Have a Blessed Week!

Sincerely,

Kathleen J. Kilty, PhD
Principal

Roy Rogers Fundraiser

Thank you to Tina Ryder and Crystal Woods for helping organize and promote the Roy Rogers Fundraiser last Friday, and to all who participated. We raised over $750! Look for our next one in the spring!

Just a Heads Up

On September 27, a professional photographer will be on campus to take updated photos for our website and marketing materials. No student whose parents selected "No" on the Publicity Consent Form will be photographed. Some students may be selected to take specifically staged photos; parents/guardians of these students will be contacted by the Advancement Office.

Join the School Band!

Students in grades 4-8 are invited to participate in the school band, led by Mr Trey Pope.

The purpose of the program is to broaden the education of the child by giving him/her an understanding of music. Participation in the band gives the student a feeling of accomplishment which is becoming such a rare but valuable part of life. The mental and physical disciplines involved in learning to read and play music are of immeasurable value to the overall development of the child. Our purpose is to bring the experience of music to every child.

FORMAT
Classes are organized to offer instruction on band instruments to all interested students enrolled in the 4th through 8th grade. These classes are taught by highly qualified teachers. Classes meet once a week from October through May, except on school holidays (minimum of 28 lessons). The health and safety of our students and staff is paramount; all guidelines of the archdiocese
and each school will be followed. Students will be scheduled by instrument or level of achievement. First year students do not become members of the school band until they reach a prescribed level of achievement. Second year students, with few exceptions, are full-fledged members of the school band. Instruction is offered on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, bass guitar and snare drum.

Please view the welcome letter and instrumental rental flier for more information.

Be a Part of the HSA and Make a Difference for MSS!

The MSS Home and School Association depends on parents to encourage volunteering their time, talents, ideas, experience, and energy. Many parents are uncertain how to get involved due to working full-time, little ones at home, etc. Most of the opportunities have flexibility—please contact us with any questions—and we welcome suggestions on future events and programs.

Please complete the Volunteer Form.

*Join us for our next meeting, October 11th at 6:30pm in the media center*

LEAD FOR A NIGHT AT THE RACES GALA NEEDED!

Each year, the HSA sponsors a Gala-style event, which is the main fundraiser for the school. Because of COVID, we have not been able to have one the past couple of years. We are in danger of not being able to hold one this year if we do not find someone willing to take the lead on this!

Please fill out the volunteer form or contact Trish at HSA@mothersetonschool.org if you are willing and able to step up for our school. The proceeds from this major event have been used to pay for classroom subscriptions, new playground equipment and mulch, and addition educational materials.

Uniform Reminder

Just a friendly reminder that uniform shoes must be solid black or solid white - not multicolor. Sneakers for PE may be any color.

*Update to Dress Code: Black socks may be worn with black shoes*

Thank You

A big shoutout to all our Handbook and Folder sponsors! Please be sure to take a look at their ads and keep them in mind for your future needs!
