Tuesday News 5/25/21

Maryn Rajaski (gr 7) and Middle School LA teacher Ms. Brennan were presented with awards from Zaner-Bloser in recognition of Maryn's Handwriting Win at the Maryland State Level and as a finalist in the National Grand Handwriting Championship. Congratulations! While many schools opt to replace handwriting and penmanship instruction with keyboarding, MSS and Zaner-Bloser recognize that learning cursive and practicing good penmanship are critical to fine motor skill development, as well as reinforces learning and activates parts of the brain keyboarding/typing does now. It is also a beautiful art form in danger of becoming lost!

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Families,

I hope this note finds you healthy and well.

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in yesterday’s talent show. Students entertained the student body with dancing, singing, magic, karate, piano playing, and more. It was wonderful to see so many talents. Thank you and congratulations, also, to the members of the tech crew and the show’s MCs. Their attention to detail and care for the students made the show a memorable experience for everyone. I am already looking forward to next year’s show.

Our students will have another opportunity to showcase their talents at our annual Field Day, which will occur on Friday, June 4. You will receive more information regarding the event in the next few days. Let us all pray for good weather!

School will be closed on Monday, May 31, for all students, faculty, and staff in observance of Memorial Day. Below is a prayer taken from Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers that I thought you would share with your family.

God of power and mercy,
You destroy war and put down earthly pride.
Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears,
that we may all deserve to be called your sons
      and daughters.
Keep in Your mercy those men and women
who have died in the cause of freedom
and bring them safely
into Your kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I hope you enjoy the three-day weekend. I look forward to seeing you back in school on Tuesday, June 1.
