A Message From the Principal
Dear Families,
Congratulations to all the students (and teachers!) who participated in the talent show. Students entertained the student body with dancing, singing, piano playing, magic tricks, and more. It was wonderful to see so many talents. Thank you, and congratulations to the tech crew members and the show’s emcees. Their attention to detail and care for the students made the show a memorable experience for everyone. You can view a slideshow of highlights here.
The annual Walkathon will take place on Friday. Let us all pray to St. Medard, the patron saint of weather, for a nice day. St. Medard, born in France in 456, was a preacher, missionary, and one of the most honored bishops of his time. Legend has it that Menard was sheltered from the rain as a child by an eagle hovering over him (Catholic Review, 2016).
For centuries, the Catholic Church has set aside the month of May to honor Mary, the Mother of God. One way to honor Mary is to recite the rosary. Praying the rosary is something most, if not all, of our students are familiar with, as it’s a regular part of our faith life at school. But sometimes, it helps to have a guide.
We will celebrate an all-school Mass and May Crowning on May 9. The Crowning will begin outside at the front of the school at 9:30, and Mass will begin in the gym at 10:00. All are welcome to attend the Crowning and Mass. Students are encouraged to bring flowers to place on the Marian altar.
Have a blessed week!
Sincerely,
Kathleen J. Kilty, PhD
Principal

MSS Annual Walkathon
This year’s Walkathon is on Friday, May 5th, 2023. Our rain date is May 12th. Both days are half-days, but there will be no After School Care on whichever day the Walkathon happens.
After consultation with the faculty, we would like to use the funds raised from the Walkathon to support two local organizations. First is Zingers for Zach, a non-profit organization in memory of Zachary Scott Miller out of Gettysburg, PA. This organization is for children up to the age of 18 in need of financial support to play a sports-related activity. The second charity is The Baltimore Work Camp serving residents in and around the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Proceeds will help cover the costs associated with youth campers and the service work they will accomplish during the week.
Register your student now at Pledgestar to make collecting donations easier!
Visit our Walkathon page for all the details!

SICK POLICY REMINDER - IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ
*Additional reminder: if your child has vomiting or nausea and is sent home from school, they should NOT RETURN THE NEXT DAY. Please follow the 24-hour rule as you would for fever or diarrhea.
There are many viruses going around, not the least of which are COVID, flu and RSV. Many of our students have already suffered illnesses. PLEASE, in order to keep our school healthy and to show consideration to other students, faculty, staff, and families, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF THEY ARE TOO SICK TO TAKE PART IN NORMAL ACTIVITIES OR IF THEY HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
- Fever at or above 100˚F
- Vomiting or Nausea
- Uncontrollable cold symptoms
- persistent/disruptive cough
- excessively runny nose
- headaches/body aches
- sore throat
- Shortness of breath
- Decrease or loss of taste or smell
- Diarrhea
- Undiagnosed rash
- Green nasal discharge lasting longer than ten days or accompanied by fever/chills
- Pinkeye
Since cold and flu symptoms can mimic COVID, please ensure your child has tested negative for COVID before sending them to school. We have at-home test kits for your convenience. Your pediatrician can also recommend a combination COVID-Flu-RSV home test kit if they believe it's necessary.
As a reminder, children must be fever- and diarrhea-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of medicine (Tylenol, Motrin, Immodium, etc.) before they can return to school.
If your child exhibits any of these symptoms at school, we will send them home. If your child must miss more than 3 days of school, we ask you to please bring a doctor's note upon their return to school.
Thank you for your consideration of the health of others and your assistance in keeping our school healthy!
