Tuesday News 4/20/21

Spirit Week is off to a totally rad start! Like, the students are getting into the theme days. Mr. Cosentino's 5th grade girls rocked the neon and high ponytails. It was sooo tubular! Every donation to participate in Spirit Week goes toward installing a bench and plaque in memory of Sister Brenda. We like, totally appreciate your support!

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Families,

I hope you are doing well and staying healthy!

I am excited to announce that several of our students were named winners in the 30th Annual Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Contest. Congratulations to the following Mother Seton School students for their achievement in earning the school-level award:

· Clark Faller

· Tierney Burns

· Ellison Rajaski

· Maryn Rajaski

· Elena Crutchfield

Additionally, Maryn was named the winner of the Maryland State Level (Grade 7). I am incredibly proud of each of them and all our students who did their best in the contest.

Some people may wonder why schools continue to teach handwriting, and it is true that many schools have dropped formal handwriting instruction for keyboarding or typing. But at Mother Seton School, we recognize that teaching a child cursive does more than help them write letters. It promotes fine motor skills, enhances hand-eye coordination, and improves memory. It also helps students in letter recognition and concentration and focus. Handwriting is a fundamental skill, and it is an important part of providing a well-rounded school experience.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS to our student handwriting winners!

Sincerely,

Kathy J. Kilty, PhD
Principal
