Tuesday News 3/14/23

We had our second annual 24 Tournament this week and it was just as much fun as last year's! This one ended with a twist, with brothers Riggins (gr 4) and Lane (gr 8) battling it out for the championship. 24 is a math game in which students in grades 4-8 compete using addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division to develop solutions to problems that equal 24. All of our student competitors did a great job! Pictured above are Dennis (gr 4) and Josey (gr 5).

22-23 YEAR AT A GLANCE

A Message From the Principal

Dear Families,

Congratulations to all of our Vincentian Virtue Award winners. For the past several months, these students have used everyday opportunities to reach out to others in our school community to set an example for all of us to live our lives in a Christ-like way. Please see Tuesday News for a list of the award winners, and if you can, please stop by the school to see the bulletin board dedicated to our award winners.

I’d also like to recognize seventh-grade student Gabe Valerio. Gabe contacted me a few months ago to ask if we could have a middle school chess club. Gabe advertised for members; to date, seven chess games are being played at recess! Thank you to Mrs. Kuykendall for monitoring the club.

This Friday is a half-day with a noon dismissal. In celebration of it also being St. Patrick’s Day, students may wear something green (other than their uniform). Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig ort!

Report cards will be sent home with students on Tuesday, March 21. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Have a Blessed Week!

Sincerely,

Kathleen J. Kilty, PhD
Principal

You can still make payments for your students' field trips through the app - please specify in the note your student's name, grade, and field trip destination.

SICK POLICY REMINDER - IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

*Additional reminder: if your child has vomiting or nausea and is sent home from school, they should NOT RETURN THE NEXT DAY. Please follow the 24-hour rule as you would for fever or diarrhea.

There are many viruses going around, not the least of which are COVID, flu and RSV. Many of our students have already suffered illnesses. PLEASE, in order to keep our school healthy and to show consideration to other students, faculty, staff, and families, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF THEY ARE TOO SICK TO TAKE PART IN NORMAL ACTIVITIES OR IF THEY HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

  • Fever at or above 100˚F
  • Vomiting or Nausea
  • Uncontrollable cold symptoms
    • persistent/disruptive cough
    • excessively runny nose
    • headaches/body aches
    • sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Decrease or loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Green nasal discharge lasting longer than ten days or accompanied by fever/chills
  • Pinkeye

Since cold and flu symptoms can mimic COVID, please ensure your child has tested negative for COVID before sending them to school. We have at-home test kits for your convenience. Your pediatrician can also recommend a combination COVID-Flu-RSV home test kit if they believe it's necessary.

As a reminder, children must be fever- and diarrhea-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of medicine (Tylenol, Motrin, Immodium, etc.) before they can return to school.

If your child exhibits any of these symptoms at school, we will send them home. If your child must miss more than 3 days of school, we ask you to please bring a doctor's note upon their return to school.

Thank you for your consideration of the health of others and your assistance in keeping our school healthy!
