THE PARADOX: FEASTING AND FASTING

Lent is a time to tend to the “things of the soul” - an opportunity to tend to those things that help us to be who we say we really want to be, as humans and as Christians. Lent is a time of fasting and of feasting: feasting on the love and mercy of God and fasting from anything that would block that love and mercy from our own hearts and the lives of our sisters and brothers. Lent is a time to tend to the wholeness of the “pray-er.” And so, we fast to grow in wholeness and holiness, letting go of those things that distract or lead us away from our truest selves. At the same time, we are invited to feast on that which will lead us more deeply into wholeness, holiness, and relationship. This is the Lenten Springtime...of growth from darkness into the “Son-light”, from brokenness into wholeness.

“May our presence and care to those most in need reflect the gentleness, esteem, and dignity we see reflected in the life and ministry of Jesus.” (St.Vincent de Paul)
