FAQs

Is Mother Seton School only for Catholics?

No. We welcome all who seek the benefits of a Catholic education for their child, and we remain true to our founding mission to be affordable and accessible. We have many students of other faith traditions as part of our MSS family.

What does the academic curriculum include?

Catholic education is known for providing students with the academic skills they need to have a rewarding and successful educational journey—and MSS is no exception. Students learn to write well and often, practice research methodologies, possess good study habits and become engaged and curious learners. Talented teachers bring creative approaches to meet the goals of the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s well-developed curriculum, which meets or exceeds state and national standards.

How large are the classes?

MSS keeps classes at a size that allows us to maintain a personal relationship with our students and provide individualized attention.

Our family values service to others and a strong sense of personal responsibility. How do you help instill these values in MSS students?

Students are encouraged to model their lives on the virtues of humility, simplicity, charity and love. Prayer Partners, the Green School Initiative, outreach projects and charitable drives give students opportunities to put their faith into action and engage with the community. Our youngest students (pre-K–5) all participate in the Second Step Anti-Bully Program.

Does MSS provide extracurricular opportunities?

Our students participate in a wide variety of extracurriculars, including band and chorus, Science Club, Engineering Club, Art Club, Vincentian Marian Youth Service Club, book clubs, Science Fair, Yearbook, and Healthy Eating Club.

Do you provide after-school care?

Yes. We provide affordable and safe on-site care through our After School Care program.

Does MSS provide bus service?

Yes. We have a variety of routes and options in Frederick and Carroll counties in Maryland and Adams and Franklin counties in Pennsylvania.

Are you equipped to help students with differentiated learning needs?

The Mother Seton Learning Center’s specially trained educators identify students who require instructional support, assess students’ needs and respond in a coordinated effort through academic support and targeted intervention. When necessary, students are referred to other agencies or programs to meet their needs.

How is technology integrated into learning?

Our mobile laptop lab provides laptops and Chromebooks for a 1:1 technology experience, and all classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and projectors. In our media center, our technology teacher introduces students to software applications and safe and effective internet use.

How does MSS provide for the health and safety of my child?

All faculty, support staff and volunteers meet requirements of the Archdiocese of Baltimore for Child Protection, including training and background checks through VIRTUS Online. A medical professional staffs the Health Room throughout the school day, and all teachers are trained in CPR/First Aid. School doors are secure, and Pre-K and kindergarten students have a dedicated fenced playground with access from their classrooms.
