We've topped our $4,000 goal! Special congratulations to the Beasley family who collected $615.00 from family members. They have many relatives in Lebanon and were particularly touched by this special mission fundraiser. Let's pray for peace and relief for all the children who will be benefiting from this very special outreach project.
Mother Seton School Students Walk to Fight Malnutrition in Rwanda
It was a warm, beautiful day on Friday, April 30, 2010 and Mother Seton School students enjoyed every minute of being outside in it. An annual tradition at MSS, the spring Walkathon was a great success raising over $5000 to benefit the Daughters of Charity Supplemental and Therapeutic Nutrition Centers project in Mukungu, Rwanda.
Walking a two mile loop on the grounds of Mother Seton School, The National Fire Academy, and St. Joseph’s Provincial House, students acquired pledges for every mile that they walked. Many students walked the maximum of 12 miles. Pre-kindergarten students walked two miles and first and second graders walked 4 miles.
“The Walkathon is a great way to have a fun activity and raise money at the same time,” said Alyssa Imes, eighth grader at MSS. Alyssa has been doing the Walkathon for the past nine years since she started at MSS in Kindergarten. This year she walked all 12 miles.
The Daughters of Charity Supplemental and Therapeutic Nutrition Centers in Mukungu, Rwanda work to fight malnutrition and the consequences that go with it. The Sisters at the centers provide “well balanced meals to those in dire need, as well as seeds and gardening supplies to farmers so that they can grow their own food.” The project “aims to purchase enough beans, flour, and rice to provide balanced meals to all of the beneficiaries for one year, as well as seeds for 1,000 gardens and 500 gardening hoes.”
