Making A Difference
Financial Aid Scholarship Fund Appeal

Dear Friends of Mother Seton School,

After two years of ministry at Mother Seton School, I can testify from personal experience, the spirit of Elizabeth Ann Seton is truly alive on these holy grounds and in many persons who connect with MSS as students, families, alumni, staff, or  friends.

I deeply admire and appreciate the tremendous spirit of faith and commitment of each person in our school community, from the newest student to our most senior alumni.  As a Daughter of Charity, I am proud of the rich spiritual and educational legacy that has been handed on from generation to generation.

Within the past two months, all of us are aware of the deep financial challenges caused by many factors outside of our control.  The families of our students are not immune, and each day a parent comes to me requesting financial aid, confident that Mother Seton School will not abandon them in their time of need.

And so I come to you graduates and friends of Mother Seton, “begging” you to give  from your abundance or your need to help our students in this time of financial stress.  Before the day ends, please send your donation—small or large—to support our Financial Aid Scholarship fund.

Your gift is a gift that will last not a lifetime, but an eternity.

God bless you for your generosity,

Sr. JoAnne Goecke D.C.

Dear Parents,

The days of summer vacation have been filled with much activity here at MSS and I am sure in your homes as well. Here are a few highlights of what we’ve been doing at MSS.

I attended The Bicentennial Celebration of Elizabeth Seton's ministry in Baltimore June 15. Cardinal Keeler, Archbishop O’Brien, Bishop Malooly, and numerous Sulpician and Diocesan clergy con-celebrated the Eucharistic Liturgy. This celebration is significant for us since it marks the beginning of Elizabeth Seton’s Catholic Education ministry first in Baltimore, then in Emmitsburg.

Farewells and welcomes continue as families and staff move on or move in to our MSS Community. We all look forward to finalized class rosters!

Our Pre-K enrollment has doubled since 2006 and I am happy to announce the opening of an additional Pre-K classroom to accommodate the growing number of students. Adding a new Pre-K classroom has necessitated the relocation of the art room and Middle School science classroom. Many thanks to our maintenance staff and teachers for their hard work with this transition.

The Media/Technology Program is advancing toward more effective instruction especially for grades 6-8. This includes additional class time for Middle School students and stronger integration of technology into classroom instruction. H.S.A. funding for ceiling mounted projectors has been a tremendous asset as we transform our plans into realities.

After serious study of the specials program at MSS, and after receiving significant feedback from faculty, students, and parents, I have decided not to offer the Introduction to Spanish Language Class for the 08-09 school year. Mr. Gordon Love will gather a small committee with knowledge/experience in the field to study the issues and make recommendations. This decision comes at an opportune time since it frees up a class period to devote to Middle School Media/Technology instruction.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton be with us!

Sister JoAnne

The Lord is Passing By
“Go outside and stand on the mountain before the Lord; the Lord will be passing by.”    I Kings 19: 11

Vacations give us a change of pace, an opportunity to move out of our routine, a time to notice what we had missed. During our summer vacation, whether we get away or remain at home, let’s take advantage of the change of pace to stand before the Lord who is passing by.

Together let us move closer to God’s holy mountain
Let us stand to greet the Lord with joy each morning
Each evening let us look about and see how the Lord has passed by
Together let us rejoice in a loving God who faithfully passes by each day
