Become a Member or a Sponsor for the Vincentian Marian Youth- Seton Council
Mother Seton School 2011-2012
What is VMY?
It is an international youth organization of the Vincentian Family. see: www.vmy.usa or www.famvin.org/wiki/VincentianMarian_Youth
What are the pillars of VMY?
- Community: Acting together instead of alone
- Service: tithe time and resources to serve those in need, especially those who are poor
- Spirituality: help one another become better Christians by talking and praying about service
- Formation: attending monthly meetings and taking an active part in prayer, reflection and sharing
How do Seton Council members serve?
Seton Council members serve in two ways:
- They explore the needs in the community; decide what they can do, and form teams for the service projects they adopt. Teams serve together at the project site each month.
- They lead school-wide outreach projects and the annual mission project. VMY members decide where the Walk-a-thon funds are directed. Funds go to one of the IPS (International Project Services sponsored by the Vincentian Family).
What are the VMY members expected to do?
Sign up and get your parents permission, attend and take an active part in the monthly meetings. Be an active team member and serve at the project site monthly. Be active in leading school-wide service projects.
When do we meet?
The first Thursday of each month from 3:00 to 4:00 in the music room (Room 103). We will dismiss from the atrium. Please look at the MSS website under ‘Teacher Pages and the VMY club will be listed.’ Info will be posted there with teams and mentor schedules.
What happens at the meetings?
1. We have an opening prayer experience.
2. We have formation about God, Vincentian formation, Blessed Mother, and how to help poor people and understand their situation. Sometimes we have guest speakers.
3. We decide which IPS gets the money we raise to help them with their services.
4. We reflect on how our service is going and how we are helping others.
Who can be a sponsor?
Sponsors are adults 18 years and older who have a desire to help young persons grow in their Christian commitment to serve those in need, especially persons who are poor.
What are Sponsors expected to do?
- Sponsors help the VMY members serve respectfully, faithfully, and responsibly.
- Sponsors meet or escort the team members to the service site and work side by side with them.
- Sponsors work with the site director to arrange the schedule and handle last minute cancellations.
- Sponsors keep in touch with the moderator (Sr. Ann Claire, DC) about how the service is going.
How can students and sponsors sign up?
Please sign up using this form.
