Welcome to the new school year. Please know that a student has been identified with SEVERE FOOD ALLERGIES in your child's classroom. With an allergy this severe, even the tiniest trace or residue of peanuts, tree nuts (all other nuts), or eggs can cause a FATAL reaction. We would like to provide some useful information regarding food products. The best form of prevention is education! Click here to learn more. |
Our Weekly Newsletter Dear Students and Parents, Happy Tuesday! Thank you to one and all for helping to make the MSS Carnival a success. The children seemed to enjoy their visits very much! We are looking forward to field day tomorrow. Please put sunscreen on your child before they come to school. They are encouraged to wear a hat for protection from the sun. We are also looking forward to the Second Grade end of the year picnic. It will be held on Monday, June 4th from 12:00 -2:00. This will take place at Memorial Park (located just behind MSS). Please join us! As the year comes to a close, I want to sincerely thank you for all of your support this school year. Thank you for sharing your children with me. They were a true pleasure to teach. It was a terrific year! I hope you have a fun and blessed summer! Dates to Remember: Happy Birthday to all our summer birthdays! Language Arts: The students will be reviewing concepts in writing and reading as we come to the end the school year. They will be taking the end of the year Benchmark Assessment on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Math: The class will begin learning about division by 2. We will find the area of a rectangle. The students will focus on their multiplication facts. We will continue to practice estimating with the estimation jar. Please have your child practice their multiplication, addition and subtraction facts over the summer break. Religion: The students will learn about love in a family and ways to handle conflict. We will learn how to show respect for others and how to take care of ourselves. The class will learn about responsibility and making good choices. We will talk about appropriate ways to express our feelings. Sincerely, Danielle Kirby |
Dear Parent(s), Welcome to second grade at Mother Seton School! I'm looking forward to an exciting school year. Below you will find an explanation of many of our classroom and school procedures. I hope this information will be a helpful resource. Attendance: As stated in our school handbook, the front office must be notified before 8:30 a.m. when your child is absent. A note is also required after your child returns to school explaining the reason for the absence. If there is a planned absence, please send a note to school identifying the day or days your child will be out. Birthdays: We love celebrating birthdays in Room 105! If your child would like to share a special birthday treat with the class, please let us know in advance. Also, keep in mind that we have a child in our room with severe nut allergies. Please take note of the list of acceptable snacks that is attached. It is important to read all of the labels to check for nuts in the ingredients. When a child celebrates a birthday at MSS, the student is excused from wearing his or her uniform on that day. If your child has a summer birthday, he or she will be recognized during the end of the school year. Folders: Our folders are an important home and school communication tool. Every day your child will bring home their homework folder with assigned homework. On Monday, the folder will include a new homework sheet for the week. On Tuesday, a MSS folder will include our school-wide newsletter, weekly classroom newsletter, filed trip permission slips, fundraising and/or other informational fliers. The Tuesday folder will also include work completed from the previous week. Please empty the folder, review your child's work with them and sign and date the form found on the inside of the folder. Please return the Tuesday folder by Wednesday. Homework: Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Our daily assignments are important because we use homework as a way to practice and review new and old skills. Therefore, it is necessary that your child completes each assignment and that a parent checks the homework before returning it to school. If your child has made a mistake, please have him or her correct it and put a star beside anything that was particularly difficult. Be reviewing the work, your child will see the importance fo checking one's work and learning from a mistake. Inclement Weather: We follow Frederick County Public School's directives. Please see your school handbook for further information. Lunch: Second grade eats lunch in the cafeteria beginning at 11:45 a.m. Students may either pack their lunch or buy a lunch at school. If your child is buying lunch (or a drink), you will use the envelope provided. You will need to: Procedures for contacting me: If you need to get in touch with me, you may place a note in your child's folder or call the front office. I will contact you either by phone or by note as soon as possible. Also, you may email me at school at mmullineaux@mothersetonschool.org. Snack: We will have our daily snack around 10:00. Please make sure your child has a healthful and nut-free snack each day. Supplies: Thank you for sending in the necessary supplies. As the year progresses, we may need to replace some items. We will let you know if your child needs anything. Transportation: It is important that we know how to release your child from school. Please send a note or call the front office, if your child will be dismissed early or in a different manner. We will dismiss your child the normal way unless you notify us of a change. So, if an emergency occurs causing a change in your child's transportation, please contact the front office as soon as possible. Weekly Communication: The daily homework assignments will be put in the pocket of your child's daily folder. If you have misplaced your child's folder, the homework assignments will be posted on the Mother Seton School website under Classroom News. On Monday, the classroom newsletter will be sent home in the daily folder. This newsletter will inform you of any scheduled activities, field trips and the instructional plan for the week. The school newsletter will come home on Tuesday in your child's Tuesday folder. The school newsletter will let you know about events happening school-wide. Both newsletters will be posted on our website too. I realize the adjustment from first to second grade is a significant one. So please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and a lot of encouragement. Thank you for choosing Mother Seton School, and for sharing your beautiful child with me. I pray that God will bless us all with a successful and happy school year! Sincerely, Mrs. Danielle Kirby |
