Covering April 23, 2012 to April 27, 2012

Dear Students and Parent(s),

It is hard to believe that Friday is our Walk-a-thon day and that next Monday will be a night at the Keys. This year is really going by quickly! Just a reminder that we will meet at the stadium between 6:15-6:30, and students should wear their PE uniform. As we prepare for our final full month of school, we will also celebrate our summer birthdays in May. I send a note home to inform parents and students when their special day will be. We will also have our final reading challenge begin next week. This is my favorite one, for the students who complete the reading and writing challenge will receive a special award and an invitation to our ice cream sundae party! I hope you have a blessed and fun-filled week. Picture day is Tuesday and of course walk-a-thon is Friday. Have a blessed week and please find below an outline of some of the concepts we will cover this week.

Birthdays: Isaiah 4/29 and My son's David & Kevin's birthday –4/29

FYI: Walk-a-thon is Friday, April 27th – pack a lunch and drink and wear your PE uniform. Tuesday is picture day – please wear your regular uniform.

In phonics and spelling, we will focus on r controlled vowels: /ur/ er,ir, ur. We will also apply the comprehension strategy and skill of asking questions and classifying and categorizing information. The week's spelling words are: her, fern, bird, dirt, fur, burn, fork, corn and the challenge words: from and beautiful. Our high frequency words are: from, beautiful, places, ground, and animals. Vocabulary words are: crowded, part, tiny. Wow Words or oral vocabulary words are: cultivate, and nutritious.

Math: We will work on rounding numbers to the nearest multiple of 10 by estimating, counting dimes, nickels and pennies, and identifying fractional parts of a whole. Students will also make observation about a graph and draw line segment to the nearest centimeter.

Religion: This week we will begin chapter 21 in our religion book. In this chapter, we will discuss the Ascension, Pentecost, and how Jesus gives us the sacrament of Baptism.
