Middle School (grades 6 - 8)

Science Egg DropSixth through eighth grade students continue to follow the Course of Study of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

The religion and family life program encourages students to personally embrace the faith of their childhood, prepares them to move into high school with sound Catholic values and convictions, and motivates them to become actively involved in their church community.

The language arts program places greater emphasis upon critical reading, appreciation of great literature, public speaking, composition, and basic research skills.

The math program continues to develop those concepts and skills which form the foundations for higher math including facility in computation, problem solving, and applications. Algebra I is offered to students who qualify for this program.

Spanish instruction is scheduled twice weekly for students in Middle School. Each year of instruction counts as a trimester of Spanish I. Successful completion of 3 trimesters of Spanish I is recognized by receiving high schools as a year of Spanish I.

Science and social studies program courses continue to develop competencies in these areas with greater emphasis on processes and reasoning. Through the integration of content strands, students recognize connections and apply new skills and ideas to new situations. Students exchange classes for each subject. Modified block scheduling allows time for more in-depth study and projects in science, social studies and language arts.

As in grades 1 – 5, middle school students also participate in art, library, computer, music, and physical education instruction with teachers who specialize in these fields. Classes are held weekly.

The Prayer Partner Program continues as students help to mentor younger students in grades 1-3 through special events, activities and field trips. Other Middle School opportunities continue with Chorus, Concert Band, Year Book and Science Club and new opportunities become available including becoming a Peer Mediator, Vincentian Marion Youth, Student Council and Science Club.
