Mother Seton School has had a great start to the new school year. Helping to propel the excitement was the success of the first ever 'Kids Helping Kids' Bingo on Sunday, August 29. This brand new fundraiser excited kids, as well as many adults, and was all the talk in the halls as students talked about what they hoped to win.
Besides looking forward to a fun filled event, students were also excited to help other students knowing that the proceeds directly benefited them by going into the Mother Seton School Scholarship Fund. "The 'Kids Helping Kids' Bingo was a tremendous success," said Lena Laug, Chairperson of the MSS Bingos. "We had a fabulous turnout and the kids had a great time. I am so thrilled that we could make such a good contribution to the MSS Scholarship Fund and, at the same time, provide a fun afternoon for the community," Laug said.
Over 200 people attended, all hoping to win one of the 20 bingo prizes or one of the many door prizes. The prizes consisted of fun-filled baskets full of Zhu-Zhu pets, Webkinz, Silly bandz, and Pokemon cards, as well as many other fun goodies. Maya Hand of Taneytown, MD, and current Fifth grader at Mother Seton School, was one of the lucky winners at the 'Kids Helping Kids' Bingo. Besides winning twice, Maya said that "the best part of the bingo was sharing time with my friends." One of her favorite prizes was an orange Zhu-Zhu pet that she named Autumn.
Many volunteers also contributed to the success of the event. Bingo caller Bob Hamlin of Thurmont, excited the kids throughout the games, while others enjoyed goodies from the concession stand, run by Chairperson Kim Hartness and her husband, Chris.
Thanks to Lina Laug, committee, and participants for hosting this new event this past Aug. 29th which raised $2,200 towards the Scholarship Fund. By participating and having fun at the same time, you raised a half-year's tuition for someone!
